Godrevy Lighthouse
The Salt PathGodrevy Lighthouse is a bright coastal landmark in the walkers’ passage along the headlands. Seen glittering in sunlight reflected from the sea, it marks not only their route but also how far they have travelled from Minehead and the home they can no longer reach.
Setting and Appearance
The walkers move on as more tourists arrive, passing Godrevy Lighthouse shining above the sea. From this point, the line of headlands stretches back toward Trevose Lighthouse and, perhaps only faintly in the far distance, Hartland Point. The view gathers separate places into one coastal prospect, making the route’s length visible.
Place in the Walkers’ Changing Perspective
The sight of Hartland Point recalls an earlier stage of the journey, while Minehead belongs to a more distant beginning. The walkers no longer feel like the people who first set out there, and their former home has drifted beyond reach. At Godrevy, the raw pain of that loss is no longer present in the same way: its memory remains, but the pain is described as having been left on another headland, audible now only as an echo. The lighthouse thus stands within a landscape that measures both physical distance and a change in how loss is carried.
